Goats and cheese

21/06/10

We have dairy goats
1 Toggenburg doe
1 Saanen doe
2 Australian Melaan does,1 buck
4 Anglo-Nubian does, 1 buck
We found that when we joined the Australian Dairy Goat Society, and registered the animals We where able to increase our selling price to up to $450.00 AUD per goat.
At the moment Robbie is making soft cheeses (Ricotta, Cream, Fetta and mozzarella)plus yogurt from the goats milk we have managed to wean the youngest children onto the milk. If we can get a small fridge we will attempt hard cheeses.
We will attempt to milk the cows soon they have not been to co-oprative to date. We keep dexter because they are a good duel purpose animal and you can keep more and they are not so bad on the fences and the meat is superb.
We keep damara sheep because of the dry conditions so far we have had only one lamb but we prasie the Lord for the blessing.

This will I hope be the recording of our journey to self sufficiency and the building of a christian community. I believe that we as a family have been called to Christian Agrarianism.
