I've been weighting up the pros and cons of Seedlings verses Seeds, I've had some success and some failures, Broad beans, swedes and horseradish success while tomatoes, sage and cucumbers failure. What do you prefer? What brands of seeds do you use?

It always pays to do research before you do anything in the garden. This morning I went to do some weeding and saw that the Elephant Garlic that we planted in February was flowering I in my noviceness thought that it was ready to harvest. So I carefully lifted it out and rinsed the soil off, only to find three very small bulbs, so I again carefully put it back and covered the roots with soil again. Then I went back inside and looked up Elephant Garlic on the internet and found that it takes two years to harvest, and when it flowers you are to cut off or bend the flower over to encourage bulb growth. Are there any other things I need to know about the onion, garlic, or leek families when they are ready to harvest?

After three days of rain totalling 36.75mils which we praise God for. We picked from the garden the next lot of Broccoli,cabbage, silverbeet, bok choi, yet another tomato(amazing considering the lateness of the season the plant has been burnt near to death with the frost.Lastly to my supprise being a novice in the garden, we had some plants which I didn't know what they where, I was thinking mybe brussels sprouts, low and behold they where cauliflowers and one was ready to pick.

After a long hiatus the chooks have started to lay again.

We have harvested the first of our Broccoli it was very nice, we still have enough for a couple of meals, it is so good to be able to go out into the garden a just pick whatever you need for both salads and soups. On the weekend we put another 3 Rosters into the fridge, that makes close to 15 so far this year. We are about to place our annual bulk order for Nuts, Grains, Seeds, legums and treats. This is a very economic way of buying even with the freight added.
